Medinsure is an Australian-registered organization tackling two interconnected crises in Kenya: the severe lack of accessible orthopaedic /musculoskeletal care and the devastating impact of road accidents. We provide holistic solutions that not only heal injuries but also build safer, more resilient communities. Our work is cantered in Western Kenya, where we've launched a pilot program focused on mental health and road safety.
We train "Community Champions" in Mental Health First Aid to offer immediate psychological support, and we conduct road safety training for "boda boda"(motorcycle taxi) riders, who are often the first responders to an accident. These efforts are critical given Kenya's severe doctor shortage, with a ratio of 1 doctor for every 5,263 people, far below the WHO's recommended 1:1,000. This is compounded by a high rate of accidents, with 2,407 Kenyans dying in the first half of 2024 alone.
Rural Kenyans face a severe shortage of accessible and affordable medical care, especially for orthopedic surgery. The problem is magnified by a high rate of accidents; in 2023, motorbike users accounted for 35% of all Kenyan road deaths, with head injuries making up over a third of injuries in motorcycle crashes. Many of these injuries go untreated due to a lack of available and affordable care. Only about 17.5% of rural Kenyans are covered by the Social Health Authority (SHA), creating a major financial barrier to essential healthcare services.
Since its inception in 2022, Medinsure has directly benefited a substantial number of people in Kenya through a variety of programs:
We are seeking a $50,000 donation and 40 volunteers in 2025 to scale our impact in Kenya. The funds will be strategically allocated to our core programs:
In 2025, our 40 volunteers will be crucial to our success, assisting with surgical missions, community outreach, and administrative tasks. Their dedication and skills will significantly amplify our efforts and allow us to reach more people in need.
Medinsure is committed to revolutionizing healthcare access through a multi-pronged approach that leverages innovative technology, community empowerment, and transparent financial support.
By combining innovative technology with targeted community programs and strategic fiscal management, Medinsure aims to holistically improve health outcomes, enhance safety, and foster economic resilience for communities across rural Kenya.
Medinsure is proud to be an Australian-registered charity with tax-deductible status, built on the support of Kenyans living in Australia who are giving back to their home country. We believe that by working together, we can make a lasting difference.
As the African proverb says, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." Your support, whether through volunteering, expertise, or donations, is a vital part of our journey. We invite you to join us and help us go further, together, in building a healthier, safer Kenya.
